Springtime
Springtime is coming. Time to plant the vegetable garden. Time to put a new spark plug in the old mower. Time to check the A/C unit to make sure it will work when it’s needed.
Springtime in Dunnellon is very elusive, and extremely short-lived. It may last a day, a week, or even two. The only thing one can rely on is that it will be over as quickly as it arrives. One day there will be wood in the fireplace, and the next will see A/C units clicking on all over town.
For those of you who are accustomed to beautiful spring days in April and May, common in more northern climes, springtime in Dunnellon can be quite a shock. You may find yourself saying – “Did we even have a ‘spring’ this year?”
Yes, we did. You just missed it!
It was on that day that you stayed in to watch Oprah. It was on that day you decided to go shopping at the mall. Perhaps it was the day you just sat in front of your computer reading some inane dribble on some website. It was here, but you missed it.
You could have been sitting on a bench at the State Park, overlooking the Rainbow River. You could have rented a kayak and cruised down the river, surrounded by all of the beauty of a spring day. You could have gotten a boat from Louie and fished for bass, carefully flipping a wild shiner into some likely cover. You could have joined a friend for some shop-hopping in the Historic District. You could have just gone to the City Beach and taken in the sights at the confluence of the two rivers.
Spring could come any day in Dunnellon, and you must be ready when it does. It may be tomorrow. What do you have planned? Perhaps you should take the day off and just relax, and enjoy this beautiful place we call home.
