Letter To Jeb Bush

October 26, 2006
Dunnellon Florida

Dear Governor Bush,

I am writing to you on a matter of grave importance for the environment that requires immediate action by the State. There is a proposed development in Dunnellon called the Rainbow River Ranch that is to be built on the banks of the Rainbow River, a first-magnitude spring and a Florida treasure.
The developer is clear-cutting age-old oak and cypress trees, and clearing land that is below the Rainbow River high-water mark, a violation of State law. It is doing this without the proper permits from the city or the D.E.P., and must be stopped before the destruction is complete.
You have been celebrated for your environmental stands, and I implore you to take action immediately to stop this wholesale ravage of one of Florida’s most precious resources.
I also ask that you not pass this on to any other state agency, and take action personally, as only the weight of your office can have the power to halt this destruction. I can document the illegal activity on the Rainbow River, and can provide you with photographs.
Please hear the plea of those of us who love this river!

Respectfully,
